Day 1 (03.03.2014)

i started with a 3 min warm up exercise with 120 bpm:

after that to continue my warm up exercise i play this:

i play this on all 6 strings. i start with 100 bpm. My guitar mentor suggest this exercise to increase strength of my right hand. It's also a good warm up exercise. After 1 min. little break i increase bpm to 110, then 120 and then 130.

when i finish warming up i pass to alternative picking exercise which is obviously most common:

i started with 100 bpm for 3 times (of course again with all strings). this time my breakes took 2 min. then continued with 110 bpm and again 3 times with all strings.

When i finish these exercises i played arpeggios for these chords: maj 7, dom7, min7 and m7b5. here is the examples:

for first finger and in key C:

for second finger in key C:

for fourth finger in key C:

allof this there samples for A string.

i also practiced at E string for first and second string. I'm going to upload these ones later.
i start with C then i play 4th of C which is F then 4th of it, Bb then it goes until i reach C again.

By doing that i memorize 4th of each note and also i play each note for 4 chords.

Before i pass to E string i took a break for 10-15 min. My practice so far took estimated 1 hour.
After a little break i continued with arpeggios at E string. but this time for 1st and 2nd finger. i haven't started 4th finger at E string yet.

Following these i practiced lydian, mixolydian and aeolian scales again following circle of 4th. i'm going to upload which exercises i did for scales later.

After 2 hours i started to getting bored of exercises and i recorded one of my favorite songs' solo:

i know that its not a perfect solo but one week later i'm going to record it again to see if i improved my playing. I was thinking about recording solo of Blind Guardian - Into the Storm but because of my pickups heavy drive tones are not so good. So i changed my mind. At the future i will record whole song. I can play it now but there is a little part that i'm not so good at so i just delayed it for later.

at the end of my practice i recorded little backing track with a bossa drums to practice me improvising. Again at the end of the week i will record my improvision.

Introduction

Hello folks,

My name is Deniz and i'm 25 years old. I'm from turkey and live in city called izmir. This is my personal blog about my guitar journey. Things which i share here are not lessons. I have been thinking about writing a blog for a long time. At this part of my life i have lots of free time to do this. I just wanted to keep a record of my guitar playing and how i improved it (if i can). I believe that there are lots of people at my situation. Sometime ago i stuck and i realized that i couldn't go any further. My improving was too slow. Then i decided to take some private lessons. Thanks to my friend i found a very good teacher.

My musical goal is crate my own music. My idols are Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt, Riverside etc. So u can guess that i want to make proggresive rock/metal music but rather than my idols i listen lots of music. I also watch lots of movies and animes, read books play computer games. I want to add this things as an inspiration to my music. I don't know if i will be able to do this but at the end its what this blog is about :)
